To impress her ex-boyfriend, and the other cynics...。退伍老兵老莫（孙越）仿其老友常若松讨老婆的方法，用半生积蓄买来年轻貌美的高山族姑娘玉梅（张纯芳）作老婆。玉梅表面看来对老莫并无感情，其实打算同老莫好好过日子。
眼见常若松婚后的凄惨景象，加上正值壮年的瓦斯工人金树（陈慧楼）常来帮玉梅的忙，两人在外人眼里正是般配的一对，老莫对自己花钱买来的家庭生活产生怀疑，而想起自己被白白牺牲掉的青春岁月，善良的他不忍再耽搁玉梅，有心成全她与金树，留下一笔钱离家出走，却不知在玉梅心中，自己正是其一辈子的依靠。。
