该剧讲述一个诈欺师一不留神和警察结婚，随后被卷入荒唐的事件并成为国会议员候选人的故事。。一次意外中，多米尼克（马塞洛·马斯楚安尼 Marcello Mastroianni 饰）救下了美丽的女子费鲁美娜（索菲娅·罗兰 Sophia Loren 饰），两人一见钟情很快陷入了热恋之中，可惜多米尼克是一个花花公子，随着时间的流逝，他不再专情与费鲁美娜，转而投入了别的女人的怀抱。
