踏入九十年代，香港人普遍陷入时日无多的恐惧中，一些人失去目标及信念，产生赌仔心态，希望在有限时空中以小抟大，但输赢都是一时之镜花水月，终归没有赌仔买肥田的事。 无线二十集「大赌场」以杜家昌（罗嘉良）从外国留学归来作为开端，昌姊家炜（林漪娸）及妹家莉（刘玉翠）对之抱着极大期望，昌在各种压力下，极想早日出人头地，无奈事与愿违，事事皆不如意，与女友王恩明（关秀媚）多年感情，更因误会而闹致分手。昌在事业爱情两失意下，得好友杨立标（邵仲衡）介绍进入蔡炳强（曾江）之集团内做事，表现出色，甚得强重用，后昌虽发现强实作非法勾当，在利欲熏心下，仍选择为强效力。 明自与昌分手后，感情失落，强乘虚而入，明在父母驱使及赌气心态下，终成强情妇，及后明尽尝玩物的滋味，甚感后悔，但已不能回头。与此同时，标因执行任务失败，强将之引为明之保镖兼司机。标早己暗恋明，因昌才将情藏于心底，...。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
